"Fall Line"

I am real pleased to present another of Marie DeVenezia's poems.  When Marie sent this to me in e-mail (07/21/00) I posted it here immediately but without her permission.  I only hope she does not mind this too much.  - poetheart  07/23/00

I have tried
In ways metamorphic sedimentary and volcanic
To change the map of our terrain.
Time and pressure,
Ice rain and wind,
Heat and heat and heat,
Do not alter the unyielding.
You are the high ridge, resistant,
As the world erodes around me.
