"America's Spirit"

"I'm enclosing something I wrote on the 13th as I was watching the news. It somehow helped me...grieve I guess."  - Cristy Ramirez 09/22/01

This is the first poem on this subject I am posting

With heavy hearts we pray, and valiantly we cling to hope.
We seek a resolution, and a way to cope.
This tragedy...so powerful and so great,
Was bred by evil, and fueled by hate.
Thousands of innocents, gone. Families torn, lives lost.
Freedom is ours, but at what cost?
Our heads are bloody, but remain unbowed.
Because as Americans, we are still proud.
Proud of our land, our liberties and our rights.
And to keep them secure, we are willing to fight.
And as our American flag, at half mast does still blaze,
We should remember our cause - justice for the human race.
Our Nation is shaken, our sense of trust and safety gone.
But we stand strong and united, and America's spirit shall live on.
