"I have reached the other side"

Paul submitted this poem last week.   He sent it to me right after he wrote it. In his accompanying e-mail, Paul said: "I think the emotional times in our life give us some of the best insight into our soul, our mind, our heart...the connection between those three is what makes life interesting...and challenging."  - poetheart 01/27/02

I have reached the other side
My contemplation is no longer a journey
It is a page in my past
Written as scribe
For my feelings remain
Intact but my memories
Are being altered
As the true reality has surfaced
How can I look at another day
And think that I won't change
How can I realize that an emotion
Will not pass
How can I grasp every
Moment of the day
And allow this tragedy
To mean only as much
As my distant memories
How can I go on
And know that my mind
And heart will always mend
And will always do right
How can I look at another day
And know that I may paint it
Another color down the road
How can the sun go down
While I realize it's always there
There is always brightness
And color around
We just have to be looking for it
