"Joys of Past"

This poem was submitted to me a few weeks ago. I read it a few times and decided that I liked where it took me as I read it.  - poetheart 07/17/03

They give me reasons to look back
And savor something I just can’t put in words.
They tell me there is something missing
And that the present isn’t whole.
A piece of the world twisting in the sky,
And in the past, shall remain there.

Human imagery and emotions
Full of the wi
ldest dreams
And strongest emotions
Confiscate our present sense of being
And urge us to revisit places
Never talked about and never understood.

But truth tells us that our memories
Are not of the mundane, but of the fascinating;
A filter as to what impressed upon us
And what made the times special and different.
Clarity helps facilitate and partition these events
For what they really were.

The realization that today will somehow be
Viewed as a part of a special time
Brings some satisfaction and urges me to
Look around and see what’s really good.
