"The Poet's Heart"

Cristy says this poem was inspired by the work of Dona Lou Pearson. I think it is a beautiful tribute from one of my dear friends to another...  - poetheart 08/18/02

The poet’s heart knows many things;
Honesty, love and pain
It knows the laziness of a summer’s day
And the coldness of a winter’s rain

The poet’s heart has made mistakes
Shed bitter tears of regret along the way
Yet the heart does not forget
And it writes what the poet cannot say

The poet’s heart knows joy and anger
And can put them into words

Spinning a poem of raw emotion
Written in every verse

The poet’s heart knows no limits
And is free to tell it’s tale
Free to write about “what if’s” and “if only’s”
Words it knows too well

The poet’s heart has been broken
Yet it finds the strength to heal and fight
For it knows that in its beating
Lie the words and thoughts that it must write

The poet’s heart is sometimes weary
Wondering how much more it can hold
Yet the poet’s heart keeps writing
For it’s story must be told
