"Prayer"

Cristy recalls attending early masses while she was enrolled in Catholic school as a child. This was written 04/12/03.  - poetheart 04/22/03

As a child I knelt on sore, scraped knees.
In blue plaid skirts and black Mary Janes.
My small clean hands a temple on the pew.
Anxious silence
As the morning sun poured in through the stained glass windows.
The robed figure spoke,
And I bowed my braided head.
Crossed myself, and repeated the Our Father.
Mercy, love, divine forgiveness. Sins, and salvation too.
All taught to eager six year olds.
Kneeling on scraped knees,
Making a temple with their hands,
And repeating Hail Mary, full of grace...
