"Silent Prayers"

Cristy confided that this poem was written for her grandfather who passed away exactly two years ago today. It was written 03/01/02. Memory Eternal.  - poetheart 03/05/02

I sat there, and watched you sleep.
Your breathing labored, and deep.
I tried to remember so many things.
Like the way you laughed, or the songs you'd sing.
I remembered the fishing trips we'd take,
And climbing inside of the play houses you'd make.
I remember sitting on your lap,
Watching the Dodgers play.
I remember catching grasshoppers,
That we'd use for bait that day.
There were so many things that you taught,
And so many things that I forgot.
You see...I thought that I'd always have you.
Thought that you would never go away.
Then I thought about losing you,
And all the things I did not say.
So I knelt at your bedside,
And prayed a silent prayer.
Whispering all the things I should have said,
And hoping that you'd hear.
